Identified Massachusetts Light Artillery Haversack or Fuse Pouch

Identified Massachusetts Light Artillery Haversack or Fuse Pouch This “tarred” linen pouch is diminutive in size for a haversack, so it may have been used to carry friction primers or fuses. Regardless, the pouch proper is composed of typical, war period tarred linen, with a leather closing tab and roller buckle. The leather shoulder strap has a roller buckle type adjustment feature, as well. The entire sack and strap remain in superior condition. Inside the pouch flap is stenciled: “15th Mass. Battery” below this is hand-written, in period ink, “Franklin Gates 15th Mass.” Gates was a member of the 15th Massachusetts Light Artillery; they completed their war service in the Gulf Region. Complete information on this unit and Gates are included with this rare pouch. $1250
