Beautiful c. 1845-1850 Man’s Brocade Vest
Beautiful c. 1845-1850 Man’s Brocade Vest – This vest is one of the best of this type we have encountered. Its wonderful and fanciful colors remain vibrant and vivid. It is double breasted and retains its original, fancy cloth covered buttons. The vest exhibits a predominance of hand sewing; all buttonholes are completely hand whipped, as well. The vest is lined, as are the two pockets, with a cream or off-white cotton linen. The interior lining does exhibit staining wear, but is in strong structural condition. The back of the vest seems to be a tan or reddish, light brown polished cotton; both adjuster straps are in place, although the adjuster buckle is no longer present (we can supply a period one to the purchaser).
In the pocket of this vest, when we obtained it from a contact in Maine, was a period piece of paper stating “Great-grandfather Eastman to my father Chester Eastman”. SOLD
