Civil War 2nd Lieutenant of the Cavalry Rank Shoulder Straps
Civil War 2nd Lieutenant of the Cavalry Rank Shoulder Straps – This is a great pair of rarely found, original Civil War, 2nd Lt. Cavalry rank straps. Civil War Officer ranks were usually indicated by the use of shoulder straps, affixed to their frock coat shoulders. This pair is the false embroidered, gilded brass bordered, metal type, with a hard backing covered with cloth; this set could be an unmarked example of the famed Smith’s patent variety of straps. The rich, yellow velvet, signifying Cavalry branch of service, remains vivid in color and in perfect condition, with no insect damage or wear holes. The back or underside of each strap is covered with a rich, dark blue wool, that is equally vivid in color and devoid of insect or wear damage. These Cavalry straps are difficult to find, and, even more so, in such superior condition.
