Civil War Army Navy Pocket Dictionary Sold to Soldiers
Civil War Army Navy Pocket Dictionary Sold to Soldiers - The Army And Navy Pocket Dictionary by William G. Webster. (New York: Mason Brothers, 1864); this pocket size book is contained within a folding black leather wallet type cover, with gilt stampings. The book measures as follows: 3″ x 4.25″ and remains in overall good, sound and complete condition, with just some minor chipping and wear to the leather cover. There is a penciled, script ID on the first page – “Brayton Peoria, Ills”. There are numerous Braytons listed, who served in Illinois units during the Civil War, so this may be a tough ID to pin down. Regardless, this is a nice soldier’s edition, with some interesting colorful images, as well as many fine, small printed pictures.
