Civil War Officer’s Vest with Staff Officer Buttons

Civil War Officer’s Vest with Staff Officer Buttons – This vest is composed of a fine, semi-brocade linen, with a linen lining and back. The eight buttons on the front of the vest are U.S. Civil War period staff officer’s buttons and are sewn, then joined to the vest via a string threaded through the button shanks on the vest’s interior side, perhaps as reinforcement. All buttons are original sews and are in great condition. The back adjuster strap of the vest has one strap with the tip torn, but the original adjuster buckle remains and is dated “1855”. There is the typical three pocket configuration evident on this vest – one over one on one side, and a single pocket on the other side of the vest’s front panels. This vest is in overall fine condition. Summer weight vests like this were worn by U.S. officers in the South, as well as by surgeons. SOLD
