Confederate Officer’s Cap

Confederate Officer’s Cap – This hat just recently surfaced in Charleston, South Carolina and has never been available for sale on the collector’s market. It is in overall superior condition, with some moth nips, but remains, structurally, very sound. The interior is in superior condition, as well; it is composed of a polished cotton  on both the interior sides and crown of the cap. A full, fine leather sweat band also remains intact. The colors (blue and red) of this hat remain vivid, after 150+ years. The quatrefoil, indicative of that of a Second Lieutenant, is fully intact, as is a modest, non-functioning chin strap. There appears to have never been chin strap buttons on the cap. The bill of the cap is also in fine condition and is curved, diminutive and somewhat McDowell-like, in style. This hat may have been a Confederate Artillery Officer’s cap. Regardless, this is a highly desirable example of very rare Confederate headgear. SOLD
