Excellent and Rare Confederate Pistol Holster
Excellent and Rare Confederate Pistol Holster – This fine example of an original, Civil War Confederate holster was constructed of a fine grade of russet brown pigskin. The holster, with the exception of missing its latch tab finial, remains in superior and highly supple condition. The flap or pistol grip cover evidences some original, decorative stamping, on its interior; in addition, the flap evidences a double-layered construction, apparently for enhancing strength and field durability. There was no muzzle plug, originally, as the muzzle end of the holster was sewn shut when constructed, during the Civil War. The belt loop, somewhat crudely sewn to the back of the holster, is an excellent example of Confederate style stitching, in its mode of attachment, as well as the material utilized (thin, twisted twine, as opposed to heavy thread). This holster would fit both a navy or an army style pistol. These definitively Confederate holsters are quite rare, especially in such superior condition.
