Fine Antebellum Quarter Plate Ambrotype of a Militia Officer
Fine Antebellum Quarter Plate Ambrotype of a Militia Officer – Excellent image of a pre-Civil War militia officer attired in his dress uniform, wearing his sword and tongue in wreath, militia style, eagle belt plate. The image is in superior condition, with hand tinted gilding, yet still exhibiting a very clear and sharp image. Virtually all of the original black lacquer remains on the reverse side of the image. The plate is housed in its original case, with its original preserver. The officer’s coat appears to be an early coatee style, with dress epaulettes, sporting gilded bullion decorative elements; his sword appears to be a M1850 Foot Officer style, and he is proudly wearing a lengthy, gilded watch chain. Both halves of the case are in good condition, although, as with many of these early cases, the hinge is broken. Perry Adams can have this completely repaired, by our conservator, for a modest additional fee.
