Fine Civil War Period Man’s Vest
Fine Civil War Period Man’s Vest – This high quality man’s vest, made of brocaded silk and lined in cotton linen, dates to the 1840s or 1850s period. The exterior, brocaded material also covers each of the vest’s buttons. The chest area is slightly padded with batting, a common feature of these period vests. There are three pockets, one over the other on one side of the vest and then a lone pocket on the other – also a feature indicative of the antebellum and bellum periods. The lapels are of the mid-19th century, wide, layover variety. The back of the vest retains its linen size adjuster straps, held in place, when adjusting, by a typical, period, brass adjuster buckle. The vest is in wonderful, almost wearable condition.
