Fine Early Portrait Miniature c. 1825

Fine Early Portrait Miniature c. 1825 (SOLD) – This fine portrait miniature, painted in watercolor or gouache, on early woven paper, depicts a well-attired, bespectacled gentleman. The miniature is housed in its original brass, glass covered bezel and once housed, most likely, a lock of the man’s hair, in the back of the case. The hair is now no longer present and that area is open. Portrait miniatures were all the rage amongst the well-heeled population, prior to the advent of photography. This fine example, although unsigned, is American and extremely well executed. The sitter’s image is strong, with vibrant color and detail. The portrait miniature measures as follows: Height – 3″; Width – 2.25″
