Fine Painting by Myron Clark, c. 1880, of the Monitor and Merrimac
Fine Painting by Myron Clark, c. 1880, of the Monitor and Merrimac – This superior work (oil on canvas) was completed by well known late 19th century American nautical artist, Myron Clark. The painting had been in the collection of Norm Flayderman when it was put up for auction in the late 1990s. The work is in superior condition – it has been professionally cleaned and stabilized and is ready for hanging. The painting, signed by Clark, evidences a depiction of the famed first clash of ironclad warships in a most impressive way, evoking an air of impressionism in style. The work has been artfully framed and backed. Attached here is the auction promotional information from Vose Gallery, where Mr. Flayderman consigned the painting. This painting is simply one of the best original works we have seen of the famous naval clash.
