Fine Pre-Civil War Militia Coatee

Fine Pre-Civil War Militia Coatee – This is a very finely tailored, c. 1845 – 1855, American militia coatee, constructed of a high quality blue and red wool. Virtually all of the coatee is hand sewn; all button holes are hand-whipped. The sleeve linings are constructed of an off-white, coarse cotton or osnaburg. All gilded, slightly “dished” large, plain buttons are present. The coatee is in excellent condition, exhibiting vibrant colors; the cloth is strong, with only a couple of minor moth nips. This is a superb example of a pre-war militia coat.
