Pattern 1826 Eagle Plate with Rare Hooks for the Model 1840 NCO Sword Belt Sling
Pattern 1826 Eagle Plate with Rare Hooks for the Model 1840 NCO Sword Belt Sling - The slings designed for use by musicians and sergeants to carry their swords, utilized the 1826 pattern circular eagle shoulder belt plate with three hooks on the reverse to adjust the length of the sling. This example retains a nice patina with some of the original gilt in the recessed areas. Of interest on the reverse, lead filled side of the plate, are two of the markedly more rare triangular hooks that would have allowed this plate to be used as both a sling and belt plate. Unfortunately, at some point in the “life” of this plate, the plain or hole hook was broken off; this damage could be repaired by a skilled restorer (if need be, we can suggest someone in our area). This is an extremely hard plate to find.
