Original Civil War Officer’s Embroidered Infantry Hat Insignia

Original Civil War Officer’s Embroidered Infantry Hat Insignia – This Civil War officer’s hat insignia remains in overall excellent condition; the oval body is covered, in front, with a rich, black velvet. A gilt embroidered infantry horn with wire border and silver embroidered number 6, is affixed to this velvet background. The number six is indicative of the Sixth Infantry of a state or the US regular army. The horn is an artfully, graceful version, denoting a quality, period product. The interior metal stiffener plate remains in place; the backing material, a fine, brown polished cotton, is in strong condition. The gilded, twisted wire surrounding the front of the insignia has is unattached in a couple of locations, but is still firmly in place. This could be readily and simply repaired. This is a fine example of a high quality, war period hat insignia. SOLD
