Rare Beige Colored Civil War Period Beaver Felt Stovepipe Hat
Rare Beige Colored Civil War Period Beaver Felt Stovepipe Hat – While we have had several examples of the usual black beaver, the Civil War period stovepipe hats, this is only the second non-black stovepipe hat we have had, from that era – they are indeed exceedingly rare. This hat, constructed of a finely napped beaver felt, exhibits the following Civil War period characteristics: sits flat on a surface; has a narrow, grosgrain ribbon, with adjustment buckle, surrounding the crown; has its original vent holes in the crown; exhibits a slight concavity to the its profile or side view of the crown. The hat is missing its original sweatband and now has two period cotton or worsted wool straps glued to opposing sides of the interior of the hat to act as chinstraps. Overall, the hat is in good condition, exhibiting some age related dings and creases. These non-black stovepipe hats are very rare.
