U.S. Civil War Federal Issue Enlisted Infantry Man’s Belt and Plate
U.S. Civil War Federal Issue Enlisted Infantry Man’s Belt and Plate – This example is the standard issue US enlisted man’s waist belt on which hung his cap box and bayonet scabbard. The belt retains its original brass keeper. The belt leather is strong and supple, exhibiting some minor crazing. The overall condition of the belt is excellent. The U.S. belt plate is the standard, oval Pattern 1839 type, with arrow hook fasteners. The face of the plate has a nice medium patina over a smooth surface. The reverse of the plate has 100% of the lead fill. This is a nice solid example of the standard infantry waist belt.
