Virginia State Seal Button – W. G. Mintzer / Phil


Non excavated button depicts Virginia state seal, Virtus slaying the tyrant, intended for Virginia troops. This design of the state seal with the sword pointed down became prevalent from the 1850′s. This depiction features a somewhat bow legged Virtus. Backmark: “W. G. MINTZER. / PHILD.. ,” inner ring of dots. Two part convex button, coat size (22.5mm).
