Virginia State Seal Button – W H Horstmann


Non excavated button depicts Virginia state seal, Virtus slaying the tyrant, intended for Virginia troops. This design of the state seal with the sword pointed down became prevalent from the 1850′s. This die variant, Albert 14A, features a somewhat relaxed Virtus with head inclined. Backmark: “W. H. HORSTMANN & SONS / (dot) PHI (dot)”, rmdc. Two part convex button, coat size (21mm).
