Virginia State Seal button – Wm H Smith / New York


Non excavated button depicts Virginia state seal, Virtus slaying the tyrant, intended for Virginia troops. This design of the state seal with the sword pointed down became prevalent from the 1850′s. Backmark: “WM H. SMITH & CO. / NEW-YORK. ” rmdc stippled channel. Two part convex button, coat size (22.5mm).
