Original Civil War Buff White Officer’s Vest
ON HOLD
Most of the Civil War officer vests we have encountered are the standard, deep blue variety and markedly more rarely, a sky blue example. This particular vest is a less encountered example constructed of a light, buff or brushed wool, lined in ribbed, white cotton and backed with a cotton linen. The cuff size, officer, nine Eagle I buttons are all attached via period “bachelor rings”.

Original Civil War Buff White Officer’s Vest – Most of the Civil War officer vests we have encountered are the standard, deep blue variety and markedly more rarely, a sky blue example. This particular vest is a less encountered example constructed of a light, buff or brushed wool, lined in ribbed, white cotton and backed with a cotton linen. The cuff size, officer, nine Eagle I buttons are all attached via period “bachelor rings”. All of the requisite period attributes are exhibited in this vest:
hand whipped, corded button holes; three front pockets – two on the left side of the vest and one on the right side (left and right designated from the wearer’s perspective); belted adjustment straps, joined by a tinned, decorative iron, small frame buckle; stand up collar; hand work and treadle, chain stitched machine work evidenced throughout. The vest is in overall fine condition (when these pictures were taken, the back exhibited a seam separation – we have had this expertly repaired); the vest evidences some minor age and use soiling.
