Civil War Federal Issue Model 1858 Light Artillery Shell Jacket
$2,200
Civil War Federal Issue Model 1858 Light Artillery Shell Jacket – This artillery shell jacket remains in overall very good condition, with bright red trim and dark blue wool, jacket exterior. Both belt bolsters remain in place, on the back of the jacket. There are some small, scattered insect nips throughout, but nothing of great significance. The interior lining of the coat is the often found, brownish colored, coarse wool. The sleeve linings are the typical, off-white cotton. Stamped in the right shoulder lining is the Cincinnati Depot inspector’s stamp and the size 3 as represented by three, inked dots. Both sleeve linings are complete and in excellent condition. There is one collar piping, general service, eagle cuff button missing, which we will have replaced, with an original button, by our textile conservator. Both hand-sewing and treadle machine work are evident in this coat. This is a solid example of a war period, issued, Union light artillery shell jacket.
