$800
Excavated Civil War Soldier’s Id’d Silver Ring – H. H. Hinkley Co. A 23rd Maine Infantry – We recently obtained a significant excavated collection that was assembled over a period of almost 50 years; amongst the impressive artifacts contained in this collection was this rarely dug, silver ID ring; stamped on the outer rim of the ring is the following:
“H. H. HINKLEY LEWISTON. CO. A 23d ME REG.”
This small, silver ring remains in overall fine condition, with one area exhibiting a slight dent. The inscribed name, state and regimental attributions remain quite clear and highly readable. Private Hinkley, of Lewiston, Maine, enlisted into Co. A 23rd Maine Infantry in September 1862; he would serve until July 1863, when he was mustered out.
