Civil War Union Infantry Officer’s McDowell Style Forage Cap
$3,500
Civil War Union Infantry Officer’s McDowell Style Forage Cap – This Civil War period McDowell cap is a superior example of an early war, officer’s cap; the cap exhibits some significant construction qualities: it was superbly tailored in Paris, as indicated by the gold embossed label on the interior crown; the cap has a black silk, quilted lining; thin Moroccan enameled leather sweatband; finely woven, deep blue, European broadcloth wool; black enameled visor and chinstrap, the latter held in place by Eagle I cuff buttons. The blue wool of the cap’s body retains its pleasing, deep blue color and evidences only a very minor bit of loss, at the front of the visor insertion. Overall, this cap remains in excellent condition. We have had several McDowell caps, yet this cap ranks amongst one of the better examples we have had.
