Civil War Non-Excavated Virginia State Seal Coat Size Buttons with RMDC Scovill Backmark (VA13)
Civil War Non-Excavated Virginia State Seal Coat Size Buttons with RMDC Scovill Backmark (VA13) – These Virginia state seal coat buttons have the motto of Virginia around the edge – “SIC SEMPER TYRANNIS”; on the back of the buttons, the shanks remain firmly in place and are encircled with the correct Civil War maker’s mark of “Scovill of Waterbury” in the rarer RMDC format. These buttons, discovered in an old home in the Lexington, Virginia area, along with three other similar Virginia buttons, may represent the remnants of a full complement of buttons from a Virginia Confederate officer’s frock coat. The buttons remain in overall excellent condition with much bright gilt remaining; the buttons have some very small storage induced tarnish spots. This is the style listed as figure VA13 in Albert’s book and VA222 in Tice’s book.*** Price for each button is $225
