Excavated Confederate Clipped Corner Brass Belt Plate from Sailor’s Creek
$275
Excavated Confederate Clipped Corner Brass Belt Plate from Sailor’s Creek – We obtained this plate from the descendants of a long-time collector who had gotten it from a relic hunter who frequented the Sailor’s Creek battlefield area for years. The plate is a typical, sheet brass, simple Confederate, clipped corner plate; it retains the soldered tongue on the back of the plate, but like many of these plates, it is missing the belt bar, which was lost during the period of use – both soldered attachment areas are still visible on the back of the plate. The soldier, again like many of these plates we have encountered, punched two holes in the plate to attach the plate via twine or leather thongs to a leather or fabric belt. The plate has some minor period bends but remains in overall very good dug condition.
