Original Civil War Period Union Officer’s Vest – This vest is one of the first we have been able to obtain in a long time; the vest is definitively war period as it exhibits the following characteristics: constructed of a fine grade of indigo-dyed, deep blue, English broadcloth wool; three front pockets (two on the left exterior and one on the right); pockets and back of the vest lined in brown, polished cotton; interior lined with an off-white, cotton; breast area is padded; size adjustment straps on the back, with black japanned clasp (dated 185?); standup collar; nine front Eagle I cuff buttons (one is missing – we will supply the buyer with one); combination of both treadle machine and hand stitching in construction modes; hand-whipped buttonholes. The vest remains in excellent condition, with some minor insect nips; color is strong and cotton back and pocket linings are in excellent condition.
