Antebellum Linen Plantation Jacket or Duster – This finely constructed, linen jacket dates to the late 1840s to 1860; the jacket, which is completely handsewn, remains in excellent condition, with one stained spot on the left back tail area. The jacket has two exterior pockets, one interior breast pocket and a pocket in each tail. The buttons are linen covered and go into hand-whipped buttonholes. The coat has a layover collar, with wide, rounded lapels; the elbows are in the “balloon style”; the cuffs are wide, with no buttons. These coats are quite rare to find today; this is only the second example we have had.
