More Dug Artifacts / Relics from the Sailor’s Creek Battlefield Area – We recently obtained a large collection of excavated artifacts from a long time relic hunter who searched primarily in Amelia County, Virginia and in the Petersburg area, in the late 60s to the mid-70s; he hunted along the retreat route and around the Sailor’s Creek battlefield, as well. Amongst the varied array of artifacts he excavated were the following:

2 – Dug U.S. silver three cent piece; date appears to be 1858; Mintage of 18,663,500 pieces; Designed by James Longacre; Obverse: Depicts a shield on a 6-pointed star; Reverse: Depicts a Roman numeral I – $45
