Early Civil War Union Enlisted Man’s Accoutrement Set – Belt, Belt Plate, Cap Box and .69 Cal. Bayonet and Scabbard
$750
Early Civil War Union Enlisted Man’s Accoutrement Set – Belt, Belt Plate, Cap Box and .69 Cal. Bayonet and Scabbard – This set is in overall good, pliable condition; the belt plate is the typical war period, triangular hook variety. Scratched into the back of the plate’s lead solder filling are the initials “DR”. The belt no longer has its brass keeper and appears to have been cleanly cut and shortened, in the period of use, to accommodate the wearer’s waist size. Attached to the belt is an early issue, shield front cap box; it remains in good condition, with both belt loops firmly affixed to the box; one of the flap ears is missing and no fleece remains inside the box; the closure tab is not complete. The socket bayonet is for a .69 cal. musket and remains sheathed in its original, early war, two rivet scabbard; the scabbard has a folding crease, from period use, in the frog, but is in overall good condition; the ovoid finial at the end of the scabbard is gone. This set obviously saw considerable use during the war, but remains in good condition, with no flaking to the leather elements.
