Early War Federal Issue .69 Cal. Cartridge Box and Sling with Both Plates

SOLD

Early War Federal Issue .69 Cal. Cartridge Box and Sling with Both Plates – This early war issue box is the larger, .69 cal. box, retaining both tins; these boxes were issued at the onset of the war, when many Federal units were armed with .69 cal. weapons. The box has the early, larger, bulbous, brass latch tab finial and the early round-edged sling buckles. The latch tab closure device is only partially remaining; one of the main flap “ears” is loosely attached to the box. Both the US box plate and eagle breast plate are original to the box. The leather remains pliable with some areas of finish loss, but no flaking. This is a great example of an early war, issue box.
