High Quality Civil War Officer’s Belt
$1,150
High Quality Civil War Officer’s Belt – This Civil War, officer’s belt is a markedly higher quality belt than most that we encounter. The leather, which remains in excellent condition, was finished in a patent leather, black paint, that is in excellent shape, with the exception of a few minor, chipped areas. The belt, which never had a provision for a shoulder strap, retains both sword drops, with their original, scabbard ring snaps. Both protective, leather “safes”, one behind the belt plate and the other behind the dismounted, scabbard hanging hook, remain in place and intact. The M1851, officer’s cast brass, belt plate and hasp, have matching benchmarks – “327”. The pleated construction of the belt exhibits, when the interior binding seam is opened slightly, a multicolored, fabric stiffener. These war period officer belts have become extremely hard to find now, and this example is a rarer, high-quality example, remaining in superb condition.
