Barn Find M1832 Heavy Artillery Broad Sword – We recently obtained a highly significant,  50 year collection of primarily excavated artifacts; some of the components of the collection were not actually dug, but are early attic or barn finds, to include this M1832 Artillery broad sword; unfortunately, there were very few records kept by the collector, so the location where this sword was discovered will remain a mystery. Regardless, the sword remains in overall good condition – it exhibits some obvious surface rust (no flaking) on the blade – the blade remains strong with no metal loss; the cast brass hilt, with its characteristic simulated scales grip has a pleasing, mustard colored patina; the eagle with talons clutching olive branches, remains clearly stamped in both sides of the pommel; unusually, during the period of use, the cross guard was stippled on both sides – a feature not done when the sword was issued, but was added by the war period owner. The overall length of the sword is: 24.5”.
