Excavated Civil War SNY (State of New York) Belt Plate – We obtained this belt plate from the family of the collector / digger who had amassed a large and significant collection, starting in the early 1970s; he hunted in the Fauquier County, Culpeper, Winchester, Brandy Station, Chancellorsville, Wilderness and Fredericksburg areas, so unfortunately, we cannot pinpoint the site of the actual excavation of this plate. This SNY plate retains both stud or “puppy paw” belt attachment modes, although the single belt hook was broken off in the period of use. The face of the plate exhibits a nice, brown patina; the lead solder back is in good condition, with some obvious ground action staining. This is an excellent example of a period SNY plate.
