Excavated CS “Egg” Belt Plate – This plate is an excellent example of the so-called Confederate “egg” style belt plate; the plate was excavated in Tennessee and remains in overall very good, dug condition. The front of the plate retains a dark green patina and the heavy gauge, wire belt hooks are in place, with the exception of a small length of  one of the j-shaped hook areas – the hooks are rusty, although not flaking and relatively strong and stable. These plates were issued to a significant number of Confederate Army of the Tennessee troops, engaged in the Western Theatre, in 1862-1863; a simple and somewhat crude plate, research suggests that telegraph wire may have been used to construct the belt hooks. This is an excellent example of this western theatre plate. (see Mullinax Plate 116) – Measures: 92mm x 55”
