Excavated M1855 Springfield Rifle

Excavated M1855 Springfield Rifle – Although we have had several dug rifles and muskets, this is the first example of an 1855 Springfield we have had. The gun is complete, with the exception of missing one barrel band. According to a plaque affixed to the old wooden board to which the gun was attached, it was excavated in the “Richmond lines”. The metal remains in overall, excellent dug condition, with no flaking or surface rust. According to the collector from whom we obtained the rifle, it was excavated approximately 40 to 50 years ago.
