Rare Non-Excavated Civil War Period Maryland State Seal Cartridge Box Plate
SOLD
Rare Non-Excavated Civil War Period Maryland State Seal Cartridge Box Plate – This rare, die stamped, brass faced plate has a lead solder-filled back, in which are mounted iron, wire hooks for attachment to the front face of a cartridge box. An example of this plate appears on p. 151 of Steve Mullinax’s book, Confederate Buckles and Plates. This plate, probably manufactured by either Ames or Gaylord, remains in superb condition; the state seal is extremely well executed and sharp in detail; the plate still retains a considerable amount of apparent gilding. This is a fine example of a very rare plate.
