Well Crafted Blacksmith Made Confederate Bowie Knife
$6,000
Well Crafted Blacksmith Made Confederate Bowie Knife – This impressive, large, Confederate Bowie was seemingly constructed by a skilled blacksmith at the onset of hostilities. The knife has a large and imposing, hammered iron, spear-point style blade, hafted into an unusual, curved hilt or grip; the latter, is constructed of two halves of dark, oiled walnut – the seam between the two grip halves is clearly visible, as are the original, period saw marks. The hilt or grip is affixed to the knife’s tang via three iron pins, inserted through the handle or hilt, then through the tang. The curvature of the hilt would provide the knife’s owner, a considerably more amount of leverage when swinging the knife, during a combative situation. Attached to the top of the wooden grip or hilt, is an octagonal, iron pommel disk or cap, affixed via two flathead screws. The wooden hilt itself is octagonally configured so as to aid in gripping the knife. The knife’s guard is a relatively thin section of iron, skillfully shaped in an ovoid form, with flat ends. This knife remains in superb condition and is a uniquely configured Confederate Bowie, with a heavy and impressive blade, designed to provide its owner with excellent defensive and offensive capabilities.
