Civil War Friction Primer Tin Boxes
$295
Civil War Friction Primer Tin Boxes ā These two-sheet iron, tinned boxes intended to hold 100 Civil War period friction primers were obtained from a collection assembled in the 1950s ā 1960s by a collector who purchased them, amongst many other items, from Bannermanās store at 500 S. Broadway, in New York City. Both boxes retain their light original embossing on the box lids, as an indication of the period contents of the boxes ā āFRICTION PRIMERSā; additionally, clearly visible, just below, are a pair of embossed crossed cannons with an ordnance bomb just above the intersection of the cannons. Some of this type of box had their lids originally japanned or painted black, although these two examples do not evidence any traces of paint or japanning; the boxes do retain their tinning on their interiors. The hinges and small latches are in good condition and functional. There are some very slight areas of surface rust.Ā The boxes each measure approximately 4ā in width and 2.5ā deep. (Price listed is cost per box)
