Mid-19th Century Civil War Period Cast Brass Diminutive Cannon Tube (Model) – This small cannon tube (7.5” in length), created either during the Civil War or just prior to the war, is constructed of solid, cast brass; it is quite realistic in appearance and is comparable to a 12 lb. Napoleon of Civil War fame. The cascabel is decoratively knurled around its large diameter; the same type of knurling appears in the two bands that encircle the barrel from trunnion to trunnion. The barrel tapers to a smoothbore muzzle. There is a fuse port, quite small in diameter, indicative of a copy of a friction primer port. In the barrel, along one side, extending from the trunnion to the breech is an apparent casting flaw or perhaps a hairline fissure created by an attempt to fire the cannon. The barrel retains a pleasing, aged patina; it weighs about 3.5 lbs.
