Civil War Union Enlisted Man’s Forage Cap with Original Artillery Insignia – This forage cap, an early war Type I, remains in excellent condition, exhibiting fine, deep blue color, with only a very slight bit of insect damage. The interior of the cap exhibits a complete, polished, brown cotton lining; the leather sweat band is complete and in overall good condition. The chinstrap, retaining its sheet brass adjuster buckle, is affixed to the cap by two, general service, eagle buttons. Atop the exterior of the crown is an original, enlisted man’s, crossed cannons, artillery insignia. On the interior of the crown, a partial, original, U.S. Army size label remains. This is a fine example of a Union enlisted man’s forage cap.
