Civil War Union Infantry Officer’s Chasseur Style Cap – This is a superior example of an original, Civil War period, Union officer’s Chasseur style cap. The cap’s body is constructed of a fine grade of English broadcloth wool, indigo-dyed a deep blue. The black lacquered brim is bound and remains in excellent condition. The chin strap is in great condition and is affixed to the cap by two, Eagle I, Federal infantry officer’s, cuff-size buttons. The interior of the cap is lined with an olive green, satinet, comparable to the material utilized to line war period, officer frock coats; the lining is completely intact and remains in excellent condition. The sweat band is constructed of a brown, thin leather and is sewn to the interior of the cap. This cap is one of the better examples of a war period, Union officer’s cap we have had. There are only a very few, minor nips in the exterior crown of the cap.
