Original Civil War Officer’s Silk Sash
SOLD
Original Civil War Officer’s Silk Sash – During the Civil War, Union and Confederate officers wore sashes around their waists, over their frock coats and beneath their sword belts, as an indication of authority and seniority. NCOs wore worsted wool, dark red to maroon sashes; lieutenants, up to the rank of general, wore dark red to maroon, silk sashes. This silk, maroon sash remains in overall very good condition, exhibiting strong color, with both end tassels in very good condition. With the exception of some very minor, barely noticeable stress pulls, this sash is in fine condition and is an excellent example of a war period sash.
