Original Civil War Period Boots

Original Civil War Period Boots – We often see 19^th century boots that are attributed to be Civil War period or earlier when they frequently postdate the war. These two pairs of boots are definitively war period or perhaps a bit earlier.

• The pair of boots on the left initial picture do not appear to have ever been worn – the soles are perfect, with no evidence of scuffing or scratches induced by being worn; they are in near perfect condition, with fabric boot pulls affixed to the interior of each boot shaft; additionally, both toe boxes are square; the soles are affixed with wooden pegs, with the stacked, Cuban style heels attached with nails; the arch or instep is high, a period feature.

• The pair of boots on the right of the initial picture have been worn and have some field repaired, somewhat crudely sewn areas. The boot pulls are leather and attached to the interiors of the boot shafts; there are somewhat decorative knee areas, with a higher quality leather; the toe boxes are square; the heels are stacked and somewhat concave (Cuban style); the soles are sewn to the uppers, with the heels attached by nails; the insteps or arches are high.

We recently obtained these boots from an old collection; they are quintessential representatives of Civil War period footwear.
