Civil War Union Officer’s Sword Belt in Superior Condition
SOLD
Civil War Union Officer’s Sword Belt in Superior Condition – We have had many great, Civil War Union and Confederate, officer’s sword belts, but this example is assuredly the best condition example we have had in a very long time. The belt, constructed of a fine, thin, pleated leather, sewn together along the interior seam of the belt, remains in excellent, supple condition, with no areas of weakness or breaks; both the sword and belt plate safes are fully intact and in equally great condition. The two sword hanger straps are in excellent condition, and both retain their original, brass saber snaps and hanger adjustment studs, as well as the leather keepers. The belt plate, a M1851, cast brass, officer’s belt plate, is a finely cast example; the stars and laurel leaf wreaths (which extend above the eagle’s wing tips) appear to have been washed in silver, during original manufacture. Fine examples of these belts have become difficult to find now; this example is a superior representative.
