Finely Executed Oil on Board 19th Century Painting of a Young Confederate Officer
SOLD
Finely Executed Oil on Board 19th Century Painting of a Young Confederate Officer – This painting of a young Confederate officer was completed either during the war or shortly thereafter. The artist, perhaps untrained, executed an exceptionally fine painting – the sitter wears a double breasted, officer’s frock coat, with brass, military buttons; the coat is trimmed, at the collar, in a thin blue piping, indicative of infantry. The painting is contained within a period lemon gilt and faux marble, wood frame, under period, wavy glass. We have had the painting backed with acid free, PVC free, foam board, with the original wood backing, outside the foam board. This is a striking rendering of a Confederate officer.
