Pre-Civil War Militia Leather Belt with 2-Piece Eagle Belt Plate

Pre-Civil War Militia Leather Belt with 2-Piece Eagle Belt Plate – This well executed Eagle Tongue and Wreath belt plate remains affixed to its original, enameled leather belt; the plate and belt date to the mid-1840s to the mid-1850s. The plate and wreath retain most of their original gilding and are in excellent condition; the belt also remains in excellent condition. Attached to the belt are two, thin, sheet brass soldered, moveable sword hangers, each with thin wire suspension rings. On the inner side of the belt is an unusual, additional, roller buckled size adjustment strap. We have had this type of pre-war plate before, but we have not had one still accompanied by its original, period belt.
