Rare C. 1898 Lithograph of Virginia’s Lee Family Participants in the Confederate Army in its Original Frame Behind Original Glass – This rarely encountered lithograph, entitled “The Lees of Virginia Generals C.S.A. 1861-1865,” was engraved by Charles B. Hall, in 1898.  Housed in its original, mahogany veneer frame, beneath the original glass, the print features five small etched portraits of Lee family members who served in the Confederate Army, depicted in their Confederate uniforms. The Lees depicted are: Fitzhugh Lee, Major General; E. G. (Edwin Gray) Lee, Brigadier General; Robert E. Lee, Commander-in-Chief; W.H.F. (William Henry Fitzhugh) Lee, Major General; and G.W.C. (George Washington Custis) Lee, Major General.  Facsimiles of each Lee’s signature appear beneath each portrait; additionally, the Lee family crest is depicted at the center top of the lithograph; at the center bottom is an etching of Stratford, the Lee family home in Virginia.  The lithograph’s title is printed in the lower margin. The print is in fair condition with some toning, slight paper loss along two of the far edges and one area of water staining; we have placed a sheet of acid free and PVC free foam core as backing. This is the first time we have encountered this print.
