SOLD
Pre-WWI US Army Cavalry M1912 Picket Pin and Leather Scabbard Accompanied by Period Bridle Rosettes – These picket pins were originally issued to the US Army Cavalry to secure their horses, while resting in a picket line. The scabbard was attached to the trooper’s saddle with two leather straps. Both the scabbard and picket pin remain in excellent condition. The scabbard’s leather is soft and supple, exhibiting no cracks to the body and no crazing; all seams are still intact. There are some minor surface cracks on the two straps and some verdigris on the brass elements that can readily be cleaned. The pin retains most of its original black paint. There are no markings on either the scabbard or the picket pin. These were issued with M1913 Cavalry Saber (Patton Sword) and were part of pre-WW1 experimental kit for mounted troops. The pin and scabbard are accompanied by a pair of original, period, cast iron, U.S. Seal bridle rosettes, in excellent condition. We have had only one other example of these rather rare and difficult to find early 20th century, US Cavalry accouterments.
