1/6 Plate Tintype of Three Union Cavalrymen ā Two Wearing Corps Badges ā This image is a sixth plate tintype that depicts three, seated Union cavalrymen, all wearing uniform jackets (cannot determine if they are shell, fatigue or frock coats); one soldier is wearing a forage cap, the other two are wearing slouch hats ā the soldier on the far right in the image is wearing a slouch hat with crossed sabers and an undetermined regimental number or letter; also discernible is one of this soldierās āacornsā from his hat cord. The soldier in the middle of the group is wearing gauntlets. The far-left sitter has a wide stripe down the outer seam of his trousers, thereby indicating he is an NCO; pinned to his coat is a 5th Corps badge, while the far-right sitter is wearing a 2nd Corps badge pinned to his jacket. The image is housed in a full case, although the hinge has deteriorated and needs to be restored. The image remains in overall very good condition, with some minor emulsion āpebblingā and a couple of scratches.
