Original Civil War Soldier’s Mess Plates

Original Civil War Soldier’s Mess Plates – These are typical, Civil War period, soldier’s mess plates, constructed of “tin” / sheet iron; both plates have low profiles for fitting into a haversack; each has a narrow, rolled circumferential, rolled lip. The smaller plate was apparently painted black, in the period of use; it remains in excellent condition. The larger plate retains remnants of the anti-corrosive, period tinning and is also in excellent condition.
